In 2009, the University of Arizona began to transform its clinical and translational research enterprise by creating the Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI). Furthering this transformation, in January 2014, CTSI was reconceived as the Arizona Institute for Clinical & Translational Science (AZiCATS) with a finely tuned mission to effectively address health disparities in Arizona’s ethnically diverse and fast-growing communities.
To accomplish this mission, AZiCATS has been organized in four key areas:
- Biomedical and health professions workforce development.
- Development and dissemination of new and improved tools, methods and programs for accelerating clinical and translational research.
- Local, regional and national community engagement in clinical and translational research.
- Unique southwest border region special populations focus (including Latino, native American, geriatric, and children).
